"I wouldn’t say that black-and-white
is always better than colour. It’s like, it depends a bit on the image, and
there are beautiful colour images where everything comes together. What I like
about black-and-white is that it takes you sort of out of the reality, because
black-and-white is completely irreal. You know, everything is colour and you
see colour all the time. That’s why I think black-and-white is a bit like
stopping the time, stripping off reality, and looking at the soul or the core
of something, the real, the bare minimum."

Wow. That just changed my outlook towards B&W images. I have never been much of a fan of those in the past, because I can never get enough of the colour in images. I mean what would be the point if photography without all those wonderful colours. Some images do look better in B&W, but I was always one for the colour.
ReplyDeleteThis quote was really something, though. :D
I kind of got addicted to Julie Delpy's Je t'aime tant, I think the accent and the rolling r's made it get stuck in my head!
I've liked both colour and B&W, and like he says, it does depend on the image. I always felt the there's something about B&W that brings out the magic in some pictures, but I couldn't quite place it or express it clearly until I heard this, when I was like, 'exactly!'.
DeleteThe guttural R's, you mean? It's the Spanish who roll theirs. Nevertheless, it simply sounds good, doesn't it? It's now that I get to say, I told you so!
